SUSI BOSTON BELLY DANCER
Susi is a Boston-based dancer of Armenian descent. She brings the pride of her heritage into her dance. Her earliest lessons were with her Grandfather listening to his beloved music on his short-wave radio. She presents the dance as an expression of joy and beauty mindful of its roots in the culture of the old-country.
Her early belly dance training "orientale" was with Z-Helene, Pat Taylor and Zein al Jundi in Austin, Texas. Currently, she receives performance coaching and Middle East folk-dance instruction from Shadia Tohme Maalouf in Boston, MA.
Recent performing experiences include:
Shows at clubs and weddings with the Egyptian singer Tarek Abd Al Hai and band in Massachusetts
Shows opening for Syrian singer Zein al Jundi in Austin Texas
Performances as a soloist in Shadia Maalouf’s “Mirsa Middle-East Folk-lore Ensemble”: Museum of Science “Treasures of Ancient Egypt “ exhibition Gala opening party and elsewhere
Appearances in staged oriental–themed musicals by Johara of Boston: “East Meets West” and “A Gypsy in Cairo”
Shows with mini-lesson at Bunker-Hill Community College 2003 and 2004
Innumerable family celebrations throughout New England
